Both major GLP-1 manufacturers, along with contract manufacturing partners, have announced new or expanded production facilities in multiple countries, reflecting the scale of investment required to meet global demand for injectable GLP-1 drugs.

Why capacity is the real bottleneck

Manufacturing complex injectable peptide drugs at scale requires specialized equipment, validated sterile production lines, and regulatory inspection before new capacity can legally contribute to supply — a multi-year process even with committed capital.

Tracking real supply impact

A new facility announcement is not the same as new supply hitting the market. The FDA's shortage database remains the most direct indicator of whether announced capacity has translated into resolved shortages for specific products.
